Dhaka, Apr 8 (bdnews24.com)—Police pressed murder charge against 13 students of Jahangirnagar University in court on investigation into the killing of Zubair Ahmed at the start of this year.
Ashulia Police Station sub-inspector Meer Shaheen Shah Parvez submitted the charge sheet to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court on last Thursday.
Court inspector Rabindra Narayan confirmed bdnews24.com about submission of the charge sheet on Sunday.
Zubair, a student of English department, died at a city hospital hours after he was beaten by Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) cadres on the campus on Jan 8.
The students accused in the charge-sheet are Khandaker Ashiqul Islam Ashik, Khan Md Rais and Zahid Hasan of zoology department; Rashedul Islam, Istiaque Mehbub Arup and Kamruzzaman Shohag of philosophy; Shafiul Alam Shetu and Avinandan Kundu Ovi of statistics; Mazharul Islam and Mahmudul Hasan Masud of history; Mahbub Akram of government and politics, Nazmus Sakib Topu of biochemistry and molecular science, and Nazmul Hossain Plabon of public administration department.
All the students are of the 37th batch, same as Zubair.
Police have arrested only four of the accused – Ashik, Zahid, Mahbub and Topu – with the rest nine are still absconding.
The 12-page charge-sheet includes 37 witnesses.
Seven of the accused have already been expelled from the university while studentship of six others has been suspended for two years.
Despite howls of protests by both students and teachers at the university, it took about four months for police to submit the charge-sheet.
