Businessman falls down from Barisal Club building, dies

A businessman has died after falling down from the Barisal Club building in the city.

Kotwali police said doctors declared Rafiqul Islam Khan, 40, dead when he was rushed to hospital after he fell from the third floor on Friday morning.

 

Rafiqul, son of Hashem Ali of Bhandarkathi village under Barisal’s Bakerganj, was a member of the club but lived in Dhaka and traded in readymade garments.

 

Sub-inspector Saidul Islam said the businessman had come to Barisal to attend an event on the death anniversary of former city mayor Shawkat Hossain Hiron.

 

“He checked in the club and was staying in room 405,” he added.

 

Quoting witnesses, the police officer said Rafiqul was strolling on the third floor of the club building around 5:15am.

 

He might have fallen down in an unguarded moment, he said.

 

The body has been handed over to his family and an unnatural death case opened.

 

Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital’s Dr Md Akteruzzman said viscera samples of the body had been collected for examination in Dhaka.
