Dhaka, May 3 (bdnews24.com) – The main opposition BNP will take out a protest march in the city on Monday afternoon demanding cancellation of the result of Bhola by-election and resignation of the chief election commissioner and two other commissioners.
The party will bring out the procession from Muktangan at around 3pm and march towards the Election Commission.
BNP standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan told bdnews24.com that they would hold a brief meeting at Muktangan and march towards the EC.
Ruling Awami League candidate Nurunnabi Chowdhury Shaon beat his rival BNP contender Hafizuddin Ahmed in the Apr 24 by-election at Bhola-3 constituency .
BNP has been demanding cancellation of the result of the election alleging vote rigging.
It also has alleged that the EC worked on behalf of the government to help them win the ruling party candidate.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police will deploy about 1,500 law enforcers to guard against any trouble during the BNP procession, a senior police officer said.
Md Walid Hossain, DMP additional deputy commissioner, said there would also be plainclothes policemen.
