US Assistant Secretary of State Paul Kapur has paid his respects at the graves of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman and former prime minister Khaleda Zia.
He arrived at the premises of Zia and the former BNP chairperson’s resting places on Thursday.
New US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent Christensen accompanied Kapur during the visit.
As renovation work was being carried out at Ziaur Rahman's mausoleum, the officials placed wreaths at the gate of the gravesite and stood in silence for a few moments as a mark of respect.
Kapur arrived in Dhaka last Tuesday.
This represents his first official visit to Dhaka.
