Afsana ‘murder suspect’ BCL leader Robin eludes arrest four days on

The law enforcers are also yet to locate the place from where she was taken to the Al Helal Specialized Hospital in Mirpur, the DMP’s Deputy Commissioner for Mirpur zone Masud Ahmed told bdnews24.com on Thursday.

He said police were waiting for the post-mortem examination report to know whether it was a case of suicide or murder.

A forensic doctor said it would take two or three more days to make the report.

Dhaka Medical College Forensic Department Assistant Professor AKM Shafiuzzaman confirmed bdnews24.com that the reason behind Afsana’s death was asphyxia, a condition in which insufficient or no oxygen and carbon dioxide are exchanged on a ventilatory basis.

“It can be strangling to death or suicide. We can’t say it now,” he said.

He also said the doctors were checking whether she had been raped or poisoned.

Demonstrations have been held in Dhaka, Afsana’s home district Thakurgaon and several other places in Bangladesh for the arrest of her so-called friend Robin.

The demonstrators alleged Tejgaon College BCL Organising Secretary Robin murdered Afsana.

Afsana, involved with Chhatra Union, was a student of SAIC Institute of Management and Technology in Mirpur.

Two youths left her unconscious at Al Helal hospital on Saturday night. The doctors found her to have been brought dead.

Her family have accused Robin of strangling her to death.

Police officer Masud said Robin is in hiding after his name appeared in media reports.

Referring to a CCTV camera footage of the hospital, he said two were seen bringing the body in the ‘unclear’ video.

Afsana had lived in a house at Manikdi in Dhaka Cantonment for three years.

The landlady of the house said Afsana had told her that she married Robin and rented the house because they had not informed their families about the marriage.

Robin used to come on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, she said and added that she would smell marijuana whenever Robin was in the house.

The landlady said Afsana had been in the house until Thursday night and she saw the house locked on Friday.

Afsana’s phone was switched off.

“Afsana is not a girl who can commit suicide,” she added.

Afsana’s uncle Toufique Elahi has also alleged that she had been murdered.

“She knew the responsibilities she had. So she cannot commit suicide.” Elahi added that her father died six months ago.

“I don’t know who killed her but I want the investigation to be free from political influence.”

Afsana’s brother Fazle Rabbi from Thakurgaon said Robin’s friend had called him up for a compromise deal.

Chhatra Union has announced demonstration for Friday and Monday to press for the arrest of the ‘killer’.
