People who were injured during the mass uprising in July and August have blocked Dhaka’s Shahbagh to press for a three-point list of demands.
They gathered at the busy Dhaka intersection around 2:30pm on Wednesday.
Mohammad Khaled Mansur, chief of Shahbagh Police Station, said: “They have blocked the Shahbagh intersection for a protest. This has caused difficulties for traffic on one side of the road. Traffic is running as usual on the other side of the road.”
The protesters are calling for all of the injured to be granted official recognition in two categories, for the security of the injured to be ensured, and for a hotline to be set up for the injured.
Sumon, who says he was injured during the mass uprising, said: “The injured are being split into three or four categories. Two of the categories will get an allowance, while the rest will not. This is discrimination. We want all of the injured to be divided into two categories and for their medical treatment to be ensured. When we spoke to the advisors, they said similar things.”
“We are also calling for the security of all of those injured to be insured and for a hotline number to be set up so that constant communication can be maintained with the injured.
