Police have detained two youths for allegedly raping a six-year-old child in Habiganj’s Baniachong.
The incident occurred in Banamthura village in South Jatrapasha on Sunday, according to Prabash Kumar Singha, additional superintendent of police of the Habiganj (Baniachong Circle). The girl’s grandmother filed a written complaint with the Baniachong Police Station on Monday.
The girl was rescued and admitted to the Baniachong Upazila Health Complex. When her condition deteriorated, she was transferred to the Habiganj District Sadar Modern Hospital.
Two teenage boys from nearby Banamthura village have been detained in connection with the incident.
Citing the complaint, ASP Prabash said the girl was playing at her home on Sunday morning when the perpetrators allegedly lured her into the nearby jungle with promises of giving her Tk 10 before raping her.
“Hearing the victim’s screams, locals rushed to her and the perpetrators fled. They immediately rescued the girl and took her to the Upazila Health Complex.”
The child is currently admitted to the Habiganj District Sadar Modern Hospital, he said.
“When a complaint was filed over the incident at night, the police conducted a raid and arrested the two youths.”
The victim’s uncle said that his brother-in-law had been sick for some time and his condition deteriorated when he heard of his daughter’s situation. He then died at 11am on Monday.
The two detained youths are being questioned over the child’s rape, ASP Prabash said.
Legal action will be taken after the interrogation, he added.
