GM Quader says bdnews24.com continues to uphold the truth despite obstacles

Jatiya Party chief says bdnews24.com has long shown remarkable courage, “even during the last government”

Jatiya Party chief GM Quader has said bdnews24.com continues to stand for truth despite facing numerous obstacles.

He made the remarks on Thursday evening at the Radisson Blu Dhaka Water Garden during the celebration of bdnews24.com’s 19th anniversary.

“I’ve followed bdnews24.com for many years,” he said.

“Even under the previous government, it played a very courageous role over a long period. Despite all the hurdles, they continue to present the truth.

“Among the media outlets that remain, I believe this one strives to work with a fair degree of independence.”

Quader said he believes many media houses in Bangladesh cannot operate freely.

“They face obstacles or live under fear. There’s no normalcy,” he said. “In terms of media freedom, our index has dropped significantly. That’s a major indicator of good governance and democracy.

“The greater the freedom of the press, the stronger the governance, the more accountable the government and society become. Unfortunately, we are slipping downward, and that’s deeply regrettable.”
