Police arrest 439 across Dhaka in a day, file 31 cases

The DMP says the arrests were made in raids across the capital, with drugs and other items seized

Police have arrested 439 people in raids across Dhaka over the past 24 hours, with 31 cases filed during the period.

In a statement on Thursday, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said the arrests were made in different police station areas across the capital. Drugs and other items were also seized during the crackdown.

Mirpur accounted for the highest number of arrests at 96, followed by Tejgaon with 79, Lalbagh with 57 and Motijheel with 55.

Police also arrested 38 people in Uttara, 37 in Wari, 28 each in Ramna and Gulshan, 20 through the Detective Branch and one through the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit.

During the raids, police recovered more than 152kg of cannabis, 7,028 yaba tablets and 175 grams of heroin.

They also seized 13 mobile phones, a motorcycle, a knife, a ramda, a cleaver, two Swiss-gear knives, a microbus and a car.

Further legal action against those arrested is under way, the DMP said.
