Home Advisor Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said the government intends to apply the experience gained from the recently-concluded student union elections at Dhaka and Jahangirnagar universities to the parliamentary polls.
After a meeting on election preparations at the home ministry on Thursday, he said the experiences of these elections and how some of these lessons could be applied were discussed.
The Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) and hall elections were held on Sept 9, followed by the Jahangirnagar University Central Students' Union (JUCSU) and hall elections on Sept 11.
Jahangir highlighted the high level of education among both voters and candidates in these university elections, saying: “The participants are among the most highly educated in the country, and so are the voters.”
He also referred to upcoming elections at Rajshahi and Chittagong universities, expressing confidence that these would be held without any trouble.
Discussing the outcomes of the meeting, Jahangir said, “We received excellent advice, and we will implement these suggestions in the future.”
In response to a query about the delayed results of the JUCSU election, Jahangri said one election used machines while the other was manually counted.
