Bangladesh is set to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Pakistan to strengthen cooperation between the police academies of the two countries.
In a meeting at the Secretariat on Tuesday, Home Advisor Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury assured Pakistan’s High Commissioner Imran Haider that the MoU would be signed.
“A memorandum of understanding or agreement will be signed to strengthen cooperation between the police academies of the two countries,” he said.
Jahangir also discussed with Imran the possibility of reviving a move taken in 2004 to have a legal instrument for the mutual exchange or transfer of criminals between the countries.
“We will take fresh steps to sign such an agreement,” Jahangir said. “Bangladesh and Pakistan share spiritual and historical ties.”
Referring to the recent visit of the home secretary to Pakistan, Jahangir praised the country’s infrastructure development and overall management, particularly the “Safe City” project, which the home advisor described as worth replicating.
Highlighting the secretary’s observations during the Pakistan visit regarding the country’s infrastructure development and overall management, the advisor added, “Particularly, their ‘Safe City’ project is something that can also be implemented in our country. We are working toward that goal.”
Pakistan assured cooperation with Bangladesh, offering to assist Bangladesh in the procurement of security vehicles and drones and in agricultural mechanisation.
