Court clears 67, including Fakhrul and Abbas, of charges in 2023 police clash

Police submit a final report recommending acquittal, citing a lack of evidence

A Dhaka court has acquitted 67 people, including BNP senior leaders Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Mirza Abbas, in a case filed under the Explosive Substances Act following a clash with police two years ago.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Sabbir Faiz accepted the final report by police, recommending their discharge on Tuesday.

The report, filed on Sept 21 last year, mentioned a lack of evidence to support the allegations against the suspects.

The clash occurred during a BNP rally on Oct 28, 2023, demanding a non-partisan caretaker government. A case was filed at Ramna Model Police Station on Oct 31, 2023.
