5 bodies recovered from burnt lighter factory in Keraniganj

A fire official says the victims’ gender remains unknown

Five bodies have been recovered from a burnt gas lighter factory in Kadamtali of Dhaka’s Keraniganj.

The victims were found after the fire was brought under control on Saturday afternoon, Anwarul Islam, media officer of the Fire Service and Civil Defence, said.

At 4pm, he said: “It is not clear whether they are male or female. Investigation is ongoing.”

The Fire Service received reports of the blaze at the tin-shed factory around 1:15pm.

Initially, three units were dispatched to the scene, before four more joined the efforts to contain the spreading flames, said Anwarul.

He could not immediately confirm the extent of the damage.
