Rail links from Dhaka to Chattogram and Sylhet revived after deadly crash

The rail services resume after a seven-hour suspension

Authorities have restored the rail service from Dhaka to Chattogram and Sylhet after it was suspended for seven hours following a crash involving Egaro Sindhur Express and freight train in Kishoreganj’s Bhairab.

Rescuers pulled out 17 bodies from the wreckage of the crash, in which several carriages of the Egaro Sindhur Express overturned, police confirmed.

Police said many others were injured in the accident that occurred around 3:45pm at Bhairab Station.

Around 11pm, Najmul Islam, director general of Bangladesh Railway’s eastern division, said: “The Kalni Express just set off from the Bhairab Station. The other trains will also start off now.”
