Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has remembered bdnews24.com Editor-in-Chief Toufique Imrose Khalidi as an independent-minded journalist who maintained his own distinctive approach to the profession.

"He was a good journalist. He had his own individuality and his journalism was independent," Amir Khosru said in a condolence message on Saturday.

"He always practised journalism with his own independent outlook."

The finance minister said he had known Khalidi for many years, dating back to his time at The Daily Star.

"I had known Toufique for many years. I knew him when he was at The Daily Star, then he went to the BBC, and later worked at several other organisations for some time.

"We always remained in touch."

Expressing deep sorrow at Khalidi's death, Amir Khosru described his passing at the age of 59 as "unfortunate".

Khalidi was on a private visit to London when he suddenly fell ill.

He was taken to St Bartholomew's Hospital on Thursday night after suffering a brain haemorrhage. Doctors pronounced him dead at 2:23pm local time on Friday.

Amir Khosru extended his condolences to Khalidi's family and the staff of bdnews24.com.
