The government has reduced the fishing ban in Bangladesh’s territorial waters during the breeding season from 65 days to 58 days.

In line with the Marine Fisheries Rules 2023, all fishing vessels will now be prohibited from catching any fish species at sea from Apr 15 to Jun 11 each year, the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock announced in a notification.

The ban aims to ensure proper fish breeding, production, conservation of marine fish resources and sustainable fishing practices, according to the ministry.

Previously, the fishing ban lasted for 65 days each year during the breeding season.

With the new notification in effect, the previous one, issued on Apr 24, 2022, has been repealed, the ministry said.
