Dhaka, June 27 (BDNEWS) – At least three people were killed and 15 others injured when a train, Upakul Express, hit a bus and a taxicab at Kuril Biswa Road rail crossing at about 10:45 pm Sunday.
A number of injured people were sent to hospitals in critical condition.
Concerned authorities apprehend that the death toll might rise.
Police said the accident occurred when the gate of the crossing was opened after a train passed through it, but soon another train crossed the rail gate. One bus and a taxicab were hit by the express train.
When contacted, Badda police confirmed the incident but could not identify the victims immediately. Injured passengers were rushed to different hospitals, they said.
Abdul Malik, officer-in-charge (OC) of Badda thana told BDNEWS that three people died and 15 others were injured due to signaling faults.
SI Abdul Hai of Badda thana said the accident occurred due to a mistake of the on-duty gateman of railway.
Mohammad Bablu, a sub-inspector of GRP, however, told BDNEWS that the bus and taxicab were hit by the train when the vehicles were crossing the rail gate through the wrong way, ignoring the signal.
Officials from Bangladesh Railway, police and GRP rushed to the spot soon after the accident.
