United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has reiterated the UN’s commitment to supporting Bangladesh in resolving the Rohingya crisis.
He gave the assurance during a speech on Saturday morning at an event in the UN’s newly inaugurated building in Dhaka’s Gulshan, state-run news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangsth, or BSS, reports.
Guterres recalled the contributions of Bangladeshi peacekeepers to UN missions, who he said
are playing an important role.
The UN chief also discussed the interim government's reform initiatives.
He visited the UN’s new facility in Gulshan to attend a photo exhibition marking the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh’s UN membership and hoist the official UN flag.
After a meeting with the UN Country Team, or UNCT, in Bangladesh, the secretary-general toured the building.
Guterres and Public Works Advisor Adilur Rahman Khan jointly inaugurated the UN House in Bangladesh.
Environment Advisor Syeda Rizwana Hasan and UN Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh Gwyn Lewis, among others, were present.
