Adverse weather disrupts LNG offloading, cuts gas supply

Adverse weather in Cox's Bazar's Moheshkhali is disrupting the transfer of imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) from ships to floating terminals, Petrobangla has said.

Meanwhile, gas supply from LNG has dropped by nearly 32 percent within three days to 686 million cubic feet (mmcfd). Total gas supply has also fallen to 2,301mmcfd.

According to Petrobangla data as of 6pm on Thursday, gas supply from domestic fields stood at 1,615mmcfd on the day.

Supply of regasified LNG (RLNG) from imported sources was 686mmcfd.

In a media statement, Petrobangla said that due to adverse weather in Moheshkhali, the transfer of imported LNG cargoes to floating terminals is being hindered. As a result, overall gas supply has decreased compared with normal levels.

“Gas supply will return to normal once weather conditions improve,” it added.

Earlier, at 2pm on Sept 21, RLNG supply in the country stood at 1,003mmcfd, with total gas supply at 2,591mmcfd.

This means that within three days, RLNG supply has declined by 317mmcfd -- or roughly 31.6 percent -- while total gas supply has dropped by 290mmcfd.

The combined daily gas supply capacity of the two floating LNG terminals in Moheshkhali is 1,100mmcfd.

The 686mmcfd supplied on Thursday evening represents roughly 62 percent of that total capacity.
