Dhaka South can be cleared of Eid waste by 9pm: administrator

13,453 cleaners and Dhaka South City Corporation employees are working to clean up approximately 15,935 tonnes of sacrificial waste on Thursday

The entire Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) area can be cleared of Eid-ul-Azha waste within 9pm, eight hours after the start of its efforts to clean up the waste from animal sacrifices, according to Administrator Md Abdus Salam.

Salam made the remarks while formally inaugurating the waste removal activities by transferring waste from the capital's Kalabagan Secondary Transfer Station (STS) to the Matuail landfill on Thursday, a DSCC media statement said.

During the event, the DSCC administrator said: “DSCC has made comprehensive preparations to remove sacrificial waste within the stipulated time. All the waste from the first day of the sacrifice will be removed to the landfill within the eight hours after the inauguration of the waste removal programme. We are hopeful that the entire Dhaka South City area will be free of sacrificial waste by 9pm tonight.”

He also sought the cooperation of the general public to ensure quick waste removal and maintain a clean city.

DSCC has made extensive preparations for the quick and efficient removal of sacrificial waste, its public relations wing says.

> A total of 13,453 cleaners and related officers and employees are working tirelessly at the field level to remove waste on the first day of Eid.

> The target of removing about 15,935 tonnes of sacrificial waste from the DSCC area on the first day of the waste removal programme has been set.

> The organisation has made extensive plans and preparations to remove a total of 33,942 tonnes of waste from the Dhaka South City area during the three days of Eid.

The DSCC also has sought the sincere and cooperative attitude of the city residents at all levels to make this campaign a success within the stipulated time and to build a clean and healthy city.
