A passenger bus has been set on fire on the road outside the Institute of Child and Mother Health in Dhaka's Matuail.

Fire Service and Civil Defence duty officer Rafi Al Faruk said they received information about the fire around 1am on Sunday.

"Two of our units reached the scene around 1:15am and brought the fire under control at 1:20am," he said.

No casualties were reported in the fire, he added.

Police also reported hand-bomb explosions on a road beside the mausoleums of three leaders of Dhaka University and on the road beneath the Secretariat Metro Station around midnight.

Earlier, around 10:30pm, a hand-bomb exploded on a platform at Kamalapur Railway Station, according to railway police.

An explosion was also reported opposite Jatrabari Police Station.

Vehicles were set on fire in Mirpur and Badda, as well as in front of Dhaka’s South Keraniganj Police Station.

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police said in a message at night that a suspect, along with a motorcycle, had been arrested in connection with the hand-bomb explosions.

However, the DMP did not specify how many people had been arrested or which of the incidents the arrests related to.

The DMP said it will hold a press conference at its media centre at noon on Sunday to provide details.
