The police have recovered the body of a journalist from a residential hotel in Dhaka’s Moghbazar.

Zakir Hossain Azadi’s body was found in a toilet of City Star hotel on Sunday, said Shah Mohammad Awlad Hossain, chief of Hatirjheel Police Station.

The 43-year-old Azadi used to work at The Daily Ittefaq. Later, he went on to work for other newspapers. He was a native of Satkhira and was unmarried.

Azadi did not maintain regular contact with his family members, said police officer Awlad. He had been living in the same hotel for several years.

“We believe that he died in the toilet a few days ago while suffering from health issues. The hotel authorities called the police after he did not answer the door for two days. The police broke down the doors of his room and toilet and recovered his body.”

The exact cause of Azadi's death will be determined after an autopsy, Awlad said.
