Yemen’s army has said it carried out 257 precision strikes against Houthi positions and movements, killing at least 700 rebels.
The military said Saturday that the operations targeted Sanaa, Midi, Baqim and front lines in al-Jawf, Marib, al-Bayda and Lahij, with the heaviest fighting around Taiz, Al Jazeera reports.
The army used warplanes, drones, artillery, missiles and rocket launchers in the operations, spokesman Col Majed Abdullah al-Nazili said in a post on X.
He said the strikes also destroyed 170 combat vehicles and other heavy equipment, but gave no figure for government casualties.
Al-Nazili said the operations had weakened the Houthis’ ability to attack civilians in their homes and villages.
On Friday, he said government forces had carried out nearly 500 military operations in 24 hours, killing or wounding 1,540 Houthi fighters.
Fighting Around Taiz
Heavy fighting has continued around Taiz, with residents appealing for evacuation as shelling persists, Al Jazeera said.
Civilian casualties have also been reported, including a baby killed by shrapnel after a shell hit a residential area in Dhubab.
The Houthis advanced on Friday in the mountainous Samaa area, where fierce clashes have continued. Large numbers of residents have fled the area, according to field sources cited by the Qatari broadcaster.
Government forces later captured the Samaa fort southeast of Taiz after heavy fighting, the government-run Saba News Agency reported.
A military source told Saba that dozens of Houthi fighters were killed or wounded, while others fled.
Key Border Crossing Closed
The government has closed the al-Houban crossing in Taiz over security concerns following an attempted Houthi infiltration, attacks nearby and a military build-up, an army official told Al Jazeera.
The crossing, which links Houthi-held al-Houban with government-held Taiz city, had reopened to civilians in 2024 after nine years of closure.
A 2022 truce collapsed in July, with fighting intensifying since then. Hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced.
