A young Bangladeshi expatriate has died after he was in a coma for 14 days following a road accident in Abu Dhabi.
The victim was identified as 22-year-old Wahidul Islam Fahim, the son of late Farid Ahmed from Binajuri Union’s Ward No. 7 under Raozan Thana in Chattogram.
Fahim’s cousin and Abu Dhabi expatriate Mohammad Yunus provided the details to bdnews24.com.
He said, “On the morning of Jan 7, Fahim was cycling to his workplace from the Khalifa City area in Abu Dhabi when a car veered out of control and hit him from behind. He suffered a head injury and lost consciousness on the spot.”
Fahim was taken to the specialised Mafraq Hospital in Abu Dhabi, where he remained in the ICU in a coma for 14 days before dying early on Tuesday morning local time.
Police said the driver involved in the accident, a Pakistani national, has been detained along with the vehicle, and the incident is under investigation.
Fahim’s body is currently at Abu Dhabi’s central mortuary. Preparations are under way to transport the body to Bangladesh after completing the necessary formalities.
Fahim had come to Abu Dhabi around two years ago with his elder brother and was managing a family-run accommodation business there.
