The United States has sent Iran a 15-point plan aimed at ending the war in the Middle East, a source familiar with the matter told Reuters on Tuesday.

News of the US plan was reported earlier by the New York Times, which, citing two officials, said the plan was delivered by way of Pakistan.

Previous diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran have often relied on indirect talks through third countries.

The latest proposal comes as international pressure grows for a ceasefire and a wider political solution to the conflict.
