Dhaka, Oct 30 (BDNEWS) – Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) Sunday announced the names of participants and officials of three federations, out of four, for the Commonwealth Games slated for March 15-28 in Melbourne, Australia.
Bangladesh will compete in the four disciplines-- Shooting, swimming, athletics and weightlifting.
The final names of the participant of Shooting Federation will be announced later.
BOA Director and Chief Operation Officer Col (Rtd) Waliullah Sunday told reporters that they would take eight shooters from nine selected shooters given by Bangladesh Shooting Federation.
He added that the two shooters -– MN Towfiq Shahriar Khan and Anjan Kumar Singh – scored 586 points each in the practice of 10m air rifles event and one of them will be selected for the final squad.
Other members of the shooting team are commonwealth gold medal winner Asif Hossain, Saiful Alam Ringki, Mohendra Kumar Singh, M Towfiqur Rahman, Sabrina Sultana, Suraiya Akter and Sharmin Akter.
Besides, manager Alauddin Chowdhury and armour Kaisar Islam will accompany the shooting team.
Imran Bhuiyan (100m sprint), Towhidul Islam (400m sprint) and Fouzia Huda Jui (Long Jump) have been selected for the athletics discipline while Milzar Hossain will accompany as coach.
Rubel Rana (Backstroke), Jewel Ahmed (Butterfly), Sabura Khatun (Freestyle) and Laboni Akter Jui (Butterfly) have been selected for the swimming team while Bangladesh Swimming Federation general secretary Shahabuddin Ahmed will accompany the team as manager-cum-coach.
Weightlifters Hamidul Islam (62kg) and Mollah Sabira Sultana (48kg) will take part in the weightlifting event and Lt Col Shahidul Islam will go as coach.
Waliullah said that the weightlifting federation withdrew the name of Ekramul Haque (56kg) at the last moment due to his cuff-muscle pain. He informed that the weightlifter is now under the supervision of physiotherapists of ICMH and BKSP.
Sabira Sultana jointly secured bronze medal in 48kg event in the last Asian Weightlifting Championship.
Apart from the athletes and coaches, BOA deputy secretary general Istiaq Ahmed Curren, BOA training and coaching committee chairman and Bangladesh Weightlifting Federation general secretary Tabiur Rahman and Brigadier Dr Nuruzzaman will accompany the Bangladesh contingent as chef de mission, manager and doctor respectively.
Now, a 25-member contingent of Bangladesh will go Australia as the BOA Thursday announced a 24-member contingent excepting the armour of shooting team.
Meanwhile, the first-phase training camp of ten disciplines for the Commonwealth Games and South Asian Games ended Sunday and the second-phase residential camp will begin on November 12.
Selected members of Athletic, Shooting, Swimming, Weightlifting, Wrestling, Taekondo, Karate, Boxing, Volleyball and Kabaddi took part in the non-residential camp.
