On his first ball, Tanzim Hasan Sakib was hit for a boundary by Kushal Bhurtel.
After that, the Nepali batsmen could not score a single run off 19 consecutive deliveries from Tanzim. Then, to close out his four overs, Tanzim collected a fourth scalp and clinched several records.
It was a day for fiery bowling, with Mustafizur Rahman also toying with the batsmen.
The blazing performances by the two pacers were the key to Bangladesh’s victory over Nepal by 21 runs on Monday in Kingstown, St Vincent and the Grenadines.
It was the match that sealed their spot in the Super Eight stage.
It was a night for celebration, and also one for breaking records. Here are some of the most notable statistics:
106
The total Bangladesh defended against Nepal was the lowest any team has successfully defended at the men's T20 World Cup in a full 20-over game. The previous such total was 113 for 4, defended by South Africa against Bangladesh in New York last week.
3
Bangladesh sealed the spot in the Super 8 phase with three wins in four matches. The Tigers have never previously won three matches in a World Cup before.
Bangladesh won two matches each in 2014, 2016, 2021 and 2022.
85
Nepal scored only 85 while chasing the target. This is the second-lowest score against Bangladesh in the T20 World Cup. In 2014, they bowled out Afghanistan for 72 runs.
3
This is the third Men's T20 World Cup match that ended with both teams being bowled out. The previous instances were Australia and Pakistan at Gros Islet in 2010, and Sri Lanka and New Zealand in Chattogram in 2014.
106
Bangladesh's 106 all-out is also the second-lowest in men's T20Is by a full member against an associate. Bangladesh's previous lowest was 108 all out against Hong Kong in T20 World Cup 2014.
4/7
Tanzim's figures stood at 4 wickets in 7 runs at the end of his four-over spell. He nicked two maiden overs as well. It is Bangladesh’s second-best bowling performance in the T20 World Cup. Mustafizur Rahman took 5 wickets for 22 runs against New Zealand in 2016.
7
The number of runs conceded by Tanzim and Mustafizur Rahman against Nepal, was the joint-fewest for Bangladesh in a Men's T20I while bowling four overs. They tied with Rishad Hossain, who achieved it against the US in Houston earlier this year.
2
Tanzim became the first from Bangladesh to bowl two maidens in one match in the T20 World Cup. In all, he is the sixth bowler in the world to achieve this feat.
In addition to that, Tanzim is the third Bangladeshi to bowl two maidens in a match in a T20I. The previous two are Nazmul Islam and Nasum Ahmed.
3
Alongside Tanzim’s two maidens, Mustafizur also bowled a maiden. This is the first T20 World Cup where Bangladesh has set a record of multiple maiden overs in a single match. Bangladesh also bowled three maidens against the US last month.
21
The 21 dot balls bowled by Tanzim is the most by any bowler in a men's T20 World Cup game. The previous highest was 20, which was shared by nine bowlers, including seven in the ongoing edition. Mustafizur also delivered 20 dot balls in the match.
2
Tanzim and Mustafizur gave away only 7 runs each in their spell of four overs. This is the first time that two Bangladeshi bowlers have given away less than ten runs in a spell of four overs in the T20I format.
