India coach Jamil ‘extremely disappointed’ after defeat to Bangladesh

He says India could not give their best against Bangladesh in the 1-0 defeat

India coach Khalid Jamil struggled for words as he reacted to his team’s 1–0 defeat to Bangladesh in the third-round return leg of the Asian Cup qualifiers.

The decisive goal came in the 12th minute from Sheikh Morsalin at Dhaka’s National Stadium on Tuesday, ending Bangladesh’s 22-year wait for a win against their neighbours.

Speaking after the match, Jamil’s frustration was palpable. “We lost -- it’s very bad, awful,” he said.

“No, no, it’s not about luck. This is football. If you work hard, you earn three points. We also had to work very hard to get three points,” he added.

Jamil singled out Hamza Chowdhury for praise, noting the England-based defensive midfielder’s crucial first-half header that kept India from equalising after Lianzuala Changte’s shot.

He also acknowledged the performance of the entire Bangladesh side.

“Not only Hamza, but all their players played well,” Jamil said.
