He gave the instruction at a function on Friday in the capital mourning his younger brother.

“You will build a monument on my grave after my death so that the people can remember me,” said the party chairman with a heavy voice.

Ershad’s brother Mozammel Hossain Lalu died of old age complications at Rangpur Medical College and Hospital on Sep 2.

The 85-year-old former dictator said: “Many have died. Big graves have developed. People go there to place wreaths.

“There was a place near the graves of my parents. I wished I would be buried there after death.
“But my younger brother has been laid to rest there as he passed away earlier. Now I don’t know where my grave will be,” he added.
Remembering Lalu, Ershad said: “He was the youngest in our family. He was modest and had no greed. Please seek blessings for him.”
He also recollected the days when was jailed after being toppled in 1990 through a popular uprising.
Ershad, now special envoy to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, said: “It is difficult to forget the oppression my family had to undergo after I resigned (as the president).”
“My two brothers were public servants. Lalu was an AGM at Janata Bank and (GM) Quader a director of an organisation. They were sent on forced retirement.
“They (who were in the government) have destroyed my son’s life by detaining me,” he added.
Lalu formed Ershad Mukti Parisad (Ershad Release Council) after the strongman was arrested.
The former president urged the leaders and activists to move ahead turning the grief into strength.
“We want to protest, not to retaliate. That’s why we want to go to power,” he said.
