Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus is set to convene an all-party meeting as part of ongoing efforts to finalise preparations for the July proclamation.
The gathering, which is expected to bring together representatives from various political parties, will take place at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka.
The meeting is scheduled to begin at 4 pm, according to a statement issued by the chief advisor’s office on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, Advisor Mahfuj Alam had said: “We have tried to prepare a proclamation in line with one of the students in the past 12/13 days following discussions with various political parties and stakeholders.
“We talked to the greater political parties such as the BNP, the Jamaat, women's organisations, teachers' organisations, different stakeholders, and students.
“They all agree on the fact that the proclamation has to be given. However, we have not been able to reach a consensus on when the declaration will be issued and what content it will contain. We hope to have an all-party meeting on Thursday."
Mahfuj said, "How the government will issue the proclamation will be clear through the meeting. We hope that the people of Bangladesh will have their expectations reflected in the declaration."
After the fall of the Awami League government in the student-led mass uprising, the Anti-discrimination Student Movement and the National Citizens’ Committee announced to issue a proclamation on the uprising.
On Dec 29, they officially announced to present the July proclamation at an event on Dec 31, the last day of the year.
Hasnat Abdullah, convener of the Anti-discrimination Student Movement, had said at an urgent press conference on Dec 29: “The ousted Awami League would be declared “irrelevant” like the Nazis in Germany through the declaration of the July Revolution.”
He also announced plans to "write the obituary" of the 1972 Constitution, describing it as a "Mujibist" Constitution.
The government later announced that it would initiate the process of a similar proclamation, pushing the Anti-discrimination Student Movement to postpone its programme to present the proclamation at the Central Shaheed Minar on Dec 31.
Subsequently, the government began to prepare the proclamation. Mahfuj said that discussions have been initiated with various stakeholders as part of this. But the political parties are not as interested in this.
