Abdur Rashid Jitu, vice-president of the Jahangirnagar University Central Students Union, has joined the BNP. Alongside him, several other student representatives have also joined the BNP’s student affiliate, the Jatiotabadi Chhatra Dal.

They officially joined at an event at the BNP’s central offices in Dhaka’s Naya Paltan on Friday afternoon.

Jitu announced the decision after presenting a bouquet of flowers to BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi. Chhatra Dal President Rakibul Islam Rakib and General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir were also present at the time.

At a press conference Jitu said: “Bangladesh is currently facing changed circumstances. I had previously said that I would, in the future, engage in politics alongside a political force that embodies the spirit of the 1952 Language Movement, the great Liberation War of 1971, the Anti-Authoritarian Movement of 1990 and the Anti-Fascist Movement of 2024.”

He said, “I think the nationalist party BNP embodies the historical spirit of these four events. There is no alternative to the BNP in building a happy and prosperous Bangladesh.”

Jitu said, “Pro-Bangladesh politics and changing the fate of the people are only possible through the nationalist party. The pro-Bangladesh politics of martyred president Ziaur Rahman and Khaleda Zia’s uncompromising attitude, her role in the mass uprising and the struggle to restore democracy have inspired us.”

At the event, Chhatra Dal President said, “All those who have joined BNP and Chhatra Dal here today have one identity - we are all July warriors. All of us want to ensure an educational environment on campus. We do not want any kind of secret politics.”

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Rizvi said the JUCSU leaders’ joining will definitely invigorate Chhatra Dal.

Alongside Jitu, Nawab Salimullah Hall Vice-President Ibn Shihab, Al Beruni Hall Vice-President Rifat Ahmed Shakil, AFM Kamaluddin Hall Vice-President GMM Raihan Kabir, Rabindranath Tagore Hall Vice-President Amit Banik, Nawab Faizunnesa Hall Vice-President Bubli Ahmed, Begum Khaleda Zia Hall Vice-President Farhana Rahman Bithi, Mir Mosharraf Hossain Hall General Secretary Shahria Nazim Riyad and Shahid Rafiq Jabbar Hall General Secretary Shariful Islam also joined the Chhatra Dal.

In addition, it was announced at the press conference that Shahid Salam Barkat Hall Vice-President Maruf Hasan and General Secretary Md Masud Rana, as well as AFM Kamaluddin Hall Assistant General Secretary Ripon Mandal had also joined the Chhatra Dal. However, they did not attend Friday’s joining ceremony.
