The Rapid Action Battalion has arrested former Rajshahi-4 MP Md Enamul Haque from Dhaka’s Adabor.

In a statement on Monday, the elite force said that he had been arrested in connection with a case over an alleged attack on an Anti-discrimination Student Movement protest in Rajshahi’s Bagmara on Aug 5.

Enamul was elected to parliament from the Rajshahi-4 seat as the Awami League candidate in 2008, 2014, and 2018.

On Aug 5, Sheikh Hasina resigned her premiership in the face of a mass movement. Three days later, an interim government took charge. Since then, many ministers, state ministers, senior leaders and influential journalists affiliated with the Awami League have been arrested.

Among them are former law minister Anisul Haq, former social welfare minister Dipu Moni, former ICT state minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak and two advisors to the prime minister – Salman F Rahman and Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury.

Former public administration minister Farhad Hossain was arrested on Saturday night. On Sunday night, former minister Asaduzzaman Noor and former state minister Md Mahbub Ali were taken into custody.

Over two dozen former ministers, MPs, advisors, and top leaders are currently in jail.
