A festive atmosphere has descended and preparations are complete as Bogura awaits the arrival of its native son, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

His Additional Press Secretary Atiqur Rahman Rumon said the prime minister is expected to arrive in Bogura by around 10:30am on Monday after travelling by road from his Gulshan residence.

Bogura District BNP President and Bogura-6 MP Rezaul Karim Badsha said the visit carries added significance this time.

“The prime minister is a son of Bogura, the pride of its people, a national leader. He has visited the district on many occasions, but this time his arrival carries a different dimension as he comes as the head of government,” he added.

The local lawmaker noted that public eagerness to catch a glimpse of Tarique has reached a fever pitch, with residents eagerly awaiting the prime minister’s arrival.

Banners and festoons welcoming him have been put up along roads across Bogura.

Upon his arrival, the prime minister will first stop at the Circuit House for a brief respite before commencing a marathon schedule of official engagements.

The sense of enthusiasm among BNP party activists and supporters is boundless, with crowds from city wards lining both sides of the road since 9am to offer their greetings.

This homecoming has sparked a unique wave of energy throughout the town.

Lokman Mia, an elderly resident of Sonatala, joined the throngs at the roadside to offer his blessings to the man he called the "pride of Bogura," praying for his longevity.

He expressed deep pride in the region's political lineage, noting that since late president Ziaur Rahman was a son of Bogura and his wife, former prime minister Khaleda Zia, also led the nation, seeing their son Tarique now as the premier is a source of extraordinary pride for the district.

The official itinerary begins at 11am with the unveiling of a plaque for the newly constructed Bogura District Bar Association building, followed by the launch of the court's e-bail bond system at 11:15am.

At 11:30am, he will inaugurate the city corporation plaque at the Bogura municipal building.

Later, at 12:45pm, he is scheduled to launch an emergency measles-rubella vaccination campaign at Ziaur Rahman Rural Hospital in Gabtali’s Bagbari, followed by Family Card distribution at Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman Degree College ground at 1pm.

He will open dredging work at Choukidaha Canal in Nasipur at 1:45pm before visiting his ancestral home in Bagbari.

At 4pm, the prime minister will address a public rally at Altafunnesa Playground, organised by the district unit of the BNP.

After the rally, he will inaugurate the new building of the Bogura Press Club and reconstruction work on the Bogura Baitur Rahman Central Mosque.
