Jamaat-e-Islami has failed to provide its bank account number and bank name despite submitting an audit report on income and expenditure for the year of the July Uprising.
The Election Commission (EC) has said disclosure of a bank account is mandatory under the conditions for a political party’s registration.
A Jamaat delegation visited the EC on Jul 31 and submitted its income and expenditure statement for the 2024 calendar year.
The report showed that the party, which recently regained its registration, had surpassed all others in income and spending during the year of the Uprising.
Asked about Jamaat’s bank account, Election Commissioner Md Anwarul Islam said: “The audit recently submitted its report. It does not specifically mention the party’s bank account number. In addition, the registration form states that the party must have a bank account, and a bank account number is required."
"Further action will be taken when the issue of Jamaat’s lack of a bank account number comes to the commission from the relevant branch of the EC Secretariat.”
Jamaat’s deputy chief Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher said, “The audit report has been submitted. Our party’s finance department has taken care of this issue. As you mentioned, we will look into the matter (lack of account number).”
