BNP chief Tarique Rahman has set off for Sirajganj to participate in an election rally.

His motorcade left Hotel Naz Garden in Bogura at 12:30pm on Saturday.

On the same day, Tarique will address a rally at the BSCIC Industrial Park in Sirajganj. He is scheduled to attend another election rally in Charjana Bypass of Tangail in the afternoon.

Kalam Azad, chief of the BNP's media cells in Rajshahi and Rangpur, said that Tarique will participate in roadside meetings at Shajahanpur and Sherpur Upazilas of Bogura while on his way to Sirajganj.

He held a meeting with party leaders and activists in the ballroom of Hotel Naz Garden before kicking off his Sirajganj journey.

Mosharraf Hossain, acting general secretary of Bogura district BNP and the BNP candidate for Bogura-4 (Kahalu-Nandigram) constituency, said: “Our leader met with us personally after a long time. He inquired about everyone and instructed us to focus on the elections and stay vigilant.”

The hotel authorities said they allowed no other guest to stay at there during Tarique’s visit for security concerns.

After visiting the shrines of Hazrat Shah Jalal and Hazrat Shah Paran in Sylhet, Tarique began his election campaign on Jan 22 with a rally at the Sylhet Government Alia Madrasa ground. On the first day of his campaign, he held seven rallies in Sylhet, Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Brahmanbaria, Kishoreganj, Narsingdi, and Narayanganj.

He launched the second phase of his campaign in Chattogram past week, addressing five rallies in Chattogram, Feni, Comilla, and Narayanganj.

On Tuesday, he held a rally at the Circuit House ground in Mymensingh and also gave speeches at two more rallies in Gazipur and Uttara. On Thursday, he began a three-day election tour from Rajshahi.
