Former Bangladesh ambassador Mohammed Farooq dies

Former Bangladesh ambassador and the chief information commissioner of the Information Commission Mohammed Farooq has passed away. He was 70.

The foreign ministry said he breathed his last in Dhaka on Sunday morning at around 8am.

Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam and the officers of the Foreign Service expressed their condolences over the death of the career diplomat who joined the Foreign Service in 1973.

Farooq served in many countries, including the Philippines where he was the ambassador from Dec 2000 to Feb 2002.

He also served as the chief information commissioner.

He will be laid to rest at his village home in Bhola, the foreign ministry said.
