Bangladesh has recorded eight more dengue deaths in a 24-hour count, alongside 1,782 hospitalisations across the country.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the latest deaths bring the total fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease this year to 209.
September has recorded 113 deaths in its first 24 days, making it the deadliest month of the year so far.
The health directorate said on Thursday that 151 patients were admitted to hospitals in Dhaka North and 194 in Dhaka South in the 24 hours to 8am on Wednesday.
Outside the two city corporations, 371 were admitted elsewhere in the division.
The figures for other divisions were 164 in Barishal, 288 in Chattogram, 286 in Khulna, 108 in Mymensingh, 130 in Rajshahi, 73 in Rangpur, and 17 in Sylhet.
Another 1,757 patients were discharged in the same 24-hour period.
This year, 69,149 dengue patients have been hospitalised and 63,874 discharged.
The health directorate has tracked dengue hospitalisations and deaths since 2000.
In 2023, 321,179 patients were hospitalised and 1,705 died -- the highest figures recorded. Last year, more than 400 died and about 102,000 were diagnosed.
