Bangladesh has reported six new dengue deaths and a record 2,158 hospital admissions over the last 24 hours, the highest single-day count this year.
The previous high came last Tuesday, when 1,872 people were admitted with dengue.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the year's death toll stood at 225 as of 8am Sunday, with September alone accounting for 128 of those deaths.
Hospitals in Dhaka North City Corporation admitted 311 patients in the latest 24 hours, while those in Dhaka South recorded 197 admissions, the DGHS bulletin said.
Other hospitals in Dhaka Division, outside the two city corporations, admitted 356 patients.
Elsewhere, Barishal recorded 227 admissions, Chattogram 345, Khulna 329, Mymensingh 132, Rajshahi 176, Rangpur 73 and Sylhet 12.
Another 1,755 patients were discharged after treatment in the same period.
So far this year, 73,694 people have been hospitalised with the Aedes mosquito-borne disease, of whom 68,006 have been discharged.
The heath directorate has tracked dengue hospitalisations and deaths since 2000.
The disease peaked in 2023, with 321,179 admissions, the highest on record, and 1,705 deaths, also the highest recorded in a single year.
Last year saw more than 400 dengue deaths, with around 102,000 confirmed cases.
