4 die with measles symptoms, 88 test positive

The latest deaths push the six-month toll to 1,057, while 1,148 people with measles symptoms seek hospital care in 24 hours

Four more people died with measles symptoms across Bangladesh over the past 24 hours, while 88 new measles cases were confirmed.

In its Sunday bulletin, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said two people died in Dhaka Division and one each in Chattogram and Mymensingh between 8am Saturday and the following 24 hours.

The health directorate has been publishing measles data since Mar 15.

Official figures show 101 people have died from measles and 956 with measles symptoms, taking the toll to 1,057 in nearly six months.

Dhaka Division has recorded the highest number of deaths with symptoms at 430, followed by Sylhet with 167. Rajshahi recorded 93, Mymensingh 78, Chattogram 75, Barishal 59, Khulna 40 and Rangpur 14.

Another 1,148 people with symptoms sought hospital care in 24 hours, with 1,033 admitted: Dhaka 346, Chattogram 269, Sylhet 137, Barishal 109, Khulna 70, Mymensingh 54, Rajshahi 32 and Rangpur 16.

Hospital admissions have reached 158,589, with 152,225 discharged.

Suspected cases total 179,814, while confirmed cases stand at 20,562.

Not all patients are tested, so the actual number of measles cases cannot be determined.
