Hospital admissions with dengue exceed 10,000 in Bangladesh with 429 cases in a day

More than half of the patients, 5,951 people, have been admitted to hospitals in June alone

As many as 429 more people have been hospitalised in Bangladesh in the past 24 hours due to dengue infection, the highest single-day count so far this year.

The previous single-day highest for dengue cases was 394, logged on Jun 24.

With the new patients, the total number of dengue-related hospital admissions this year has risen to 10,296. Among them, 42 people have died.

More than half of the hospitalised patients this year — 5,951 — were admitted in June alone. Additionally, 1,161 patients were admitted in January, 374 in February, 336 in March, 701 in April, and 1,773 in May.

Out of the total deaths this year, 19 each occurred in June and January, three in February, seven in April, and three in May.

The Barishal Division recorded the highest number of new dengue admissions in the past 24 hours with 149 patients, according to Monday’s bulletin from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

In addition, 87 patients were admitted in the Dhaka metropolitan area, 61 in the rest of the Dhaka Division, 57 in the Chattogram Division, 21 in the Khulna Division, and 54 in the Rajshahi Division.

Currently, 1,167 dengue patients–313 in Dhaka and 853 outside the capital–are receiving treatment in hospitals across the country.

In 2024, a total of 101,211 people were hospitalised with dengue in Bangladesh, and 575 people died. This was the third-highest number of dengue admissions in a single year and the second-highest death toll on record.
