Bangladesh has recorded 530 new dengue hospitalisations in the 24 hours, taking the year’s total to 17,214, official figures show.
No new deaths were reported in the 24 hours to Tuesday 8am.
The dengue death toll stands at 59 this year, including five in the first four days of August.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 36 people died from the Aedes mosquito-borne disease in July and 13 in June.
With the latest admissions, the total number of hospitalised dengue patients this year has reached 17,214. Of them, 15,834 have recovered and been discharged.
Among the newly admitted patients, 39 were hospitalised in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), 82 in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), and 93 in other parts of the capital.
Across Bangladesh, 73 patients were admitted in Barishal Division, 73 in Chattogram, 81 in Khulna, 38 in Mymensingh, 26 in Rajshahi, 22 in Rangpur, and three in Sylhet.
The DGHS has been tracking dengue hospitalisations and deaths since 2000. Bangladesh recorded its worst outbreak in 2023, when 321,179 people were hospitalised and 1,705 died.
Last year, more than 400 people died from dengue, while around 120,000 infections were recorded.
