At least two more children with measles symptoms have died in Sylhet division.

The latest fatalities have raised the death toll from suspected and confirmed cases of the disease across the division to 74.

Both children passed away while undergoing treatment at Sylhey MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital (SOMCH), said Noore Alam Shamim, divisional director at Health Office Sylhet.

One of the dead, 9-month-old baby Dibani Pal was the daughter of Dipon Pal, a resident of Osmaninagar Upazila in Sylhet.

The other, 2-month-old Rayyan, was the son of Monowar, a resident of Doarabazar Upazila in Sunamganj.

According to a report from the Sylhet Divisional Director of Health Office, 268 patients with measles symptoms are undergoing treatment at hospitals across the division in the 24 hours to 8am on Thursday.

Another 71 suspected patients were admitted during the same period.

Since Jan 1, 325 people in Sylhet Division have been confirmed to have measles infection in laboratory tests.

The division has recorded 70 deaths among people with symptoms, four of them confirmed measles cases.
