Two more die with measles symptoms in Bangladesh

Dhaka and Sylhet record the latest deaths as 758 people are admitted to hospitals in 24 hours

Bangladesh has recorded two more suspected measles deaths in a 24-hour count.

One fatality was reported in Dhaka Division and the other in Sylhet, the Directorate General of Health Services said on Saturday.

Since Mar 15, 831 people have died with measles symptoms, according to official figures. Another 99 died after testing positive for measles.

A health directorate bulletin on Saturday said 65 people tested positive in the 24 hours to 8am Friday.

Dhaka Division recorded the highest number of deaths with symptoms at 367, followed by Sylhet with 139. Rajshahi Division recorded 92, Mymensingh 74, Chattogram 63, Barishal 49, Khulna 33 and Rangpur 14.

In all, 815 people sought hospital care for measles symptoms during the period, with 758 admitted.

Hospital admissions have reached 129,583, while 125,151 patients have been discharged.

Suspected measles cases total 148,406, including 18,273 confirmed cases.
