Singer and actor Pritom Hasan and actress Shahtaj Monira Hashem have announced the end of their marriage “on mutual understanding”.
The couple, who tied the knot four years ago, shared the news on their Facebook pages on Sunday night. A divorce process is now under way.
The decision was not sudden, they said. It came after long deliberation, lengthy discussion between themselves and the support and consent of both families.
“Shehtaj and I have mutually and amicably decided to end our marriage after ten years together,” the joint statement reads. “While we are grateful for the memories we shared and still care for each other, we realised over time that we are simply better off going separate ways due to lack of mutual understanding.”
They asked fans, friends, colleagues and the media to respect their privacy and feelings as they enter this new chapter of life.
The pair married in 2022. They met while working on the music video for the song “Jadukor”, and the acquaintance blossomed into romance.
They completed the formalities of the wedding on Oct 28, 2022, at a hotel in Sreemangal in the presence of both families.
Pritom is the younger son of the late singer Khaled Hasan Milu.
In recent years he has won praise for crowd-pleasing songs such as “Local Bus”, “Beainshab”, “Khoka”, “Dushtu Kokil” and “Chand Mama”, as well as for work in television drama and on OTT platforms.
He has also appeared in songs on Coke Studio Bangla.
Shahtaj rose to fame acting opposite Siam Ahmed in Dhruba Guha's music video “Shudhu Tomar Jonno”.
She has since acted in a range of television dramas.
