Cohen, who is known for his gotcha interviews featuring over-the-top personas Ali G and Borat, enacted the prank for an episode of his satirical show ‘Who is America?’.
In the episode Cohen, in heavy disguise, played an ex-convict named Rick Sherman, who made a meal of ‘prison-inspired’ dishes for real-life DinnerReviews.com editor and food critic Bill Jilla.
Cohen presented Jilla with a series of increasingly gruesome dishes, ending with ‘filet of vegetarian-fed Chinese dissident and cauliflower purée’ which the ‘chef’ described as a dish inspired by an instance of cannibalism during his time in prison and made with “ethically sourced human flesh”.
After taking a bite of the dish, Jilla described it as ‘buttery soft’.
Cohen then convinced the food critic to send a message to the family of the supposed Chinese political prisoner he was eating, telling him that it “would be a great honour for the family to know someone in the West is enjoying their son”.
