The Game of Thrones universe is heading to cinemas for the first time, with Aegon’s Conquest set to arrive on Jun 6, 2029, Variety reports.
The film will be directed by Owen Harris, who has worked on A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, from a screenplay by Beau Willimon, according to the entertainment publication.
Variety said the story is expected to centre on Aegon I, founder of the Targaryen dynasty, and his conquest of Westeros several centuries before the events of Game of Thrones. Aegon has never appeared on screen, and his casting has yet to be announced.
The project will be the first movie set in the fictional world of Westeros, following HBO’s successful Game of Thrones franchise and its spinoffs House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
Harris is also an executive producer on A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and has directed several episodes of the series. Willimon previously served as showrunner of Netflix’s House of Cards and worked as a writer on Disney+’s Andor.
While Aegon’s Conquest is still several years away, Variety noted that fans will continue to see the franchise on television, with House of the Dragon returning for a fourth season and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms renewed for a second.
