The third edition of MAYA Bengal in Motion has celebrated the 123rd birth anniversary of Palli Kabi Jasimuddin with a folk dance drama of his masterpiece, “Nakshi Kanthar Math”.

The event, held at the Aloki Convention Centre on Friday, was jointly organised by MW Magazine Bangladesh and MAYA, a natural wellness brand under Square Toiletries Limited, to mark both the poet's legacy and International Dance Day.

In a media statement, the organisers noted that this year’s curation was a thoughtful tribute to one of Jasimuddin’s finest works, which has been translated into numerous languages.

The performance retold the poignant story of love and separation between the characters Rupai and Saju, following the tradition of the first dance drama adaptation by Bulbul Lalitakala Academy in 1959.

The performance featured celebrated dancers Shamim Ara Nipa and Shibli Mohammad alongside the troupe Nrityanchal.

Curated by Anisul Islam Hero, the production used a blend of music and expressive storytelling to capture the simplicity of rural Bengal.

Square Toiletries Limited Managing Director Anjan Chowdhury attended the event.

Malik Mohammed Sayeed, CEO of the MAYA’s parent company, reaffirmed the brand’s commitment to the nation’s heritage during his welcome speech.

"MAYA continues to work towards bringing world-class natural products closer to people across the country,” he said.

“The brand remains committed to supporting initiatives that celebrate our art, culture, and heritage, inviting audiences to reconnect with our roots, rhythms, and essence."

Rumana Chowdhury, editor and publisher of MW Magazine Bangladesh, also delivered a welcome address to the audience.

The event’s partners included Maasranga Television as the broadcast partner, Mediacom Limited for PR, Aegis Security Forces for safety, Sun Communications Limited for management, and Eskay Events for decoration.

The programme is scheduled to be broadcast on Maasranga Television on Apr 29 to coincide with International Dance Day.
