A total of 79,246 students have been awarded scholarships after participating in the 2025 Primary Scholarship Examination. Among them, 32,965 students received Talent Pool Scholarships, while 46,281 students were awarded General Scholarships.
The results were officially announced at a press conference held on Sunday afternoon at the International Mother Language Institute in Dhaka.
The event was attended by Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj, Prime Minister’s Education Advisor Mahdi Amin, along with officials from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education.
According to the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, students from 78,810 schools participated in the scholarship examination. Of these, 65,605 were government primary schools and 13,205 were non-government schools.
Although 645,000 fifth-grade students registered to sit for the 2025 scholarship examination, 419,982 students ultimately took part. Of them, 344,127 were from government schools and 78,855 were from non-government schools.
Addressing the press conference, Director General of the Directorate of Primary Education Shahina Ferdousi said:
“A total of 79,246 Talent Pool and General Scholarships have been awarded under the 2025 Primary Scholarship Examination. Of the 32,965 Talent Pool scholarship recipients, 26,375 are from government schools and 6,590 are from non-government schools.
“Meanwhile, 46,281 students received General Scholarships, including 36,420 from government schools and 9,861 from non-government schools. Among all scholarship recipients, 35,892 are boys (45.29 percent) and 43,354 are girls (54.71 percent).”
She added, "We believe that organising the 2025 Primary Scholarship Examination is not merely a process of assessing academic merit; it is also an important step toward preparing our future generation to become competitive and responsible citizens.”
Later, Education Minister Milon formally announced the scholarship results. He said, “We are almost doubling the scholarship amounts from next year. The monthly stipend has been increased from Tk 300 to Tk 600, while the Tk 225 stipend has been raised to Tk 450.
“The results have started being uploaded. The director general has informed me that they will be available within the next two to three hours.”
Among the 35,892 boys who received scholarships, 16,398 were awarded Talent Pool Scholarships, while 19,494 received General Scholarships.
Among the 43,354 girls, 16,567 received Talent Pool Scholarships, and 26,787 received General Scholarships.
Dhaka district recorded the highest number of scholarship recipients, with 4,682 students receiving awards. Of them, 1,897 received Talent Pool Scholarships and 2,785 received General Scholarships.
The lowest number of scholarship recipients was in the Bandarban district, where 188 students received scholarships.
Dinajpur district recorded the highest number of unsuccessful candidates. Although 15,366 students sat for the examination there, 8,898 did not qualify for scholarships.
During the press conference, Director General Shahina Ferdousi also announced a proposal to increase scholarship payments for 2026.
She said that in 2025, a total of 82,500 scholarships were available, including 33,000 Talent Pool Scholarships and 49,500 General Scholarships. Talent Pool recipients received a one-time grant of Tk 225 and a monthly stipend of Tk 300, while General Scholarship recipients received a one-time grant of Tk 225 and a monthly stipend of Tk 225.
“For 2026, the proposal keeps the total number of scholarships unchanged but increases the scholarship amounts. The one-time grant for Talent Pool Scholarships has been proposed to increase from Tk 225 to Tk 450, while the monthly stipend would increase from Tk 300 to Tk 600.
“For General Scholarships, it has been proposed that both the one-time grant and the monthly stipend be increased from Tk 225 to Tk 450.”
