Eid vacation is about to begin at English medium schools following foreign curricula in Dhaka and other cities on Monday.

Like other public and private educational institutions, English medium schools will remain closed until Mar 26, with classes starting on Mar 29. Although classes will not be held in English medium schools until this day, exams will continue as per the schedule set by the authorities. All academic coaching centres have also been declared closed until the same day.

The Ministry of Education has taken the decision to reduce public inconvenience during the holy month of Ramadan.

Education Minister Ehsanul Haque Milon took the decision after discussing the matter with representatives of English medium schools on Sunday, ministry spokesman Khalid Mahmud told bdnews24.com.

Later on Sunday, the ministry issued an order announcing holidays for English medium schools will start on Monday.

Public and private educational institutions at the secondary and higher secondary levels have been closed since the first day of Ramadan. However, classes in English medium schools were open as of Sunday.

Khalid told bdnews24.com, "Since the schools do not have a specific academic calendar or holiday list, the authorities had considered starting the Eid holidays as per their own decision. They had even announced the examination schedule for the students."

"However, it was decided at the meeting to close these schools and all types of coaching centres from Monday. Although there will be no classes for English medium students during the holidays, exams will be held on the scheduled days."

The officer also said that English medium schools will remain closed until Mar 26, like public and private schools.
