Sri Lanka cruised to a commanding 6-wicket victory over Bangladesh in their Group B tie of the Asia Cup, chasing down 140 with 32 balls to spare in Abu Dhabi.

Asked to bat first, the Tigers were off to a dreadful start as openers Tanzid Hasan and Parvez Hossain Emon were both dismissed for ducks at Sheikh Zayed Stadium on Saturday.

Skipper Litton Das (28) steadied the ship, but Wanindu Hasaranga (2-25) struck twice in quick succession to leave the Tigers teetering at 53 for five after 10 overs.

Jaker Ali (41*) and Shamim Hossain (42*) then salvaged the innings, forging an important 86-run partnership for the sixth wicket, the highest of the innings, and guiding Bangladesh past 130.

Chasing the subpar target, Sri Lanka breezed to the target inside the 15th over, thanks to Pathum Nissanka's fluent 50 off 34 balls and Kamil Mishara's unbeaten 46.

Mahedi Hasan grabbed 2 for 29 as Mustafizur Rahman (1-35) and Tanzim Hasan Sakib (1-23) chipped in.

Bangladesh now face an uphill task in Group B, facing Afghanistan on Tuesday.
